Waters of Life

This painting depicts a pastoral scene in which a stream flows into a river flanked by mountains and green hills, where wildlife of various sorts gather; in the corner, a spiderweb hints that we are all a part if the web of life.  It was inspired by the recent struggle by the Dakota Sioux Tribe to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline from being routed under their territorial lands. This struggle to maintain the purity of our drinking water is one of universal concern.  That “water is life” is not a cliche, but a fact of life on earth. It is hard to believe that anyone could possibly think otherwise.  Whoever thought that painting a landscape would be a political act?

Someone recently asked me which of my paintings most reflects humanity’s dependence on nature.  My response was “The one I am working on now.”  I was referring to the above work which was in its early stages at the time.   

Acque della Vita

 Questo dipinto raffigura una scena pastorale in cui un ruscello scorre in un fiume fiancheggiato da montagne e colline verdi, dove la fauna di vario genere si riuniscono; in un angolo, una ragnatela suggerisce che siamo tutti una parte della rete della vita. E 'stato ispirato dalla recente lotta dal Dakota Sioux Tribe per fermare il Dakota Access Pipeline di essere instradato sotto il fiume che passa attraverso le loro terre territoriali. Questa lotta per mantenere la purezza della nostra acqua potabile è una preoccupazione universale. Che "l'acqua è vita" non è un cliché, ma un fatto della vita sulla terra. E 'difficile credere che qualcuno potrebbe pensare il contrario. Chi pensava che dipingere un paesaggio sarebbe un atto politico?

Recentemente qualcuno mi ha chiesto quale dei miei quadri più riflette la dipendenza dell'umanità sulla natura. La mia risposta è stata "Quello che sto lavorando ora." Mi riferivo al lavoro di cui sopra, che era nelle sue fasi iniziali, al momento.
